What is CEREC?
CEREC is a machine our office uses to manufacture
tooth restorations, like crowns (caps), onlays, and veneers.
It is an acronym which stands for Chairside
Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic.
Chairside means that we can provide the treatment
(crown, onlay, etc) in one patient visit and Ceramic refers to the final
product - a non-metallic restoration which is bonded to the existing or
remaining tooth structure. As such, CEREC restorations are extremely
durable and natural looking.
Many studies have shown CEREC restorations to last
as long or even longer than Gold restorations (previously the industry standard for quality and
longevity).
The benefit to patients is treatment in one
appointment and a tooth-colored restoration which matches the look and feel of
their natural teeth. This material restores the tooth to 103% of it's
original strength by using compressed porcelain, which is very close to human
enamel in it's properties. The restoration is bonded so it allows
conservation of tooth structure and patients report little to no sensitivity.
